Digital News Production: First Day of Shooting

In the end, the first day of filming wrapped up quite nicely.

Charlotte and Natasha on the set during the interview.
For the exterior scenes we filmed our reporter/interviewer, Natasha outside walking on the pavement. We had her in different locations for some of these shots to add different layers of variety to it. We were quite lucky to have some very nice locations available to us for this.

The interior scenes took place in my living room where we had a basic set consisting of a settee, tables and the interview participants in shot. We originally used a framed poster in the background but there was a glare from the lighting that was too jarring to keep in.

For the actual interview, we did run into some problems with the lighting as mentioned above. Unfortunately we didn't have much time to prepare beforehand, and had to focus on getting the exposure right. One of the lighting kits wasn't working at that time so we had to work with the two lighting kits that had working bulbs. Despite these problems we did manage to get a good natural interview and I was quite happy with the results. The sound came out very good even though the clip mic wasn't working properly at the start.

We were also able to use a GoPro which really added to the student-esque vibe of the interview and allowed us to get some alternate footage. Overall the days filming was quite easy although we'll have a much harder task on Saturday when we have to show 3-5 separate meals being made for our cooking story and have our presenter, Dave Chawner film scenes based around it.
The days filming ended on a happy note.
