Directions Unit: Using A Canon 7D DSLR
For our video workshop on January 8th, we were introduced to the Canon 7D DSLR cameras. This was strange to get used to because we had only prior experience with the Sony ED cameras but nethertheless was easy to adjust to. We filmed a short movie featuring Lex Wilkinson, Chris Sarmiento, Andy Cox and myself using this camera which was shown at the end of the day's workshop. I uploaded it to my channel on YouTube:
Directions Unit: Sound Project
For the sound project we have been asked to do we have been given a choice of six pictures to use. We are going to add sound to these pictures to bring them to life. For this task the photo I have selected is the third one of the snowy street. I feel the picture allows for many different ideas of what could be going on and isn't limited at all.

Directions Unit: My Idea
A Journey Through... Anger
Characters:
My main character is named David, he is around the 22-24 year age bracket, he has had issues with attitude problems mainly due to his drug addictions for the last couple of years. He became addicted to crack/cocaine two years previously. This means that his mood tends to go from relaxed to angry in a short space of time. In the meantime most of the people in his life have left him because he's not the same person they felt they once knew. In the meantime he is extremely protective of his ex-girlfriend who he feels he still has a chance with.
The secondary character is a female named Diana, she is 22 and has been the long time girlfriend of David for about 4 years. Originally they were head over heels in love, but David's personal demons took over after the death of his abusive father. Diana has had a rising career working in investment banking and is quite career minded. This gets David even angrier when he thinks she is pushing him out of his life. Diana has put up with David as much as she could because she loves him, even placing him inside of drug rehabilitation centres. The final straw for Diana came when she was violently beaten by David during one of his drug binges and he accused her of cheating on him.
Locations:
The home location I will be using will be a small apartment building in which the exterior shots will be filmed mainly in one room. The room is very messy and unorganised which reflects David's character, the only exception in the room is a picture of Diana that is neatly placed on a nearby table.
Other location choices I have made include a dark secluded alley way that David walks through on the way to meet Diana. However this is not where they meet as Diana is still scared of him and wants to meet in a more public place. This is why they meet instead in the local park for David to collect the package.
The Package:
The package that David is collecting will be an engagement ring that he gave to her a year previously, Diana takes it off her finger and places it back into a tiny box which she then gives to David.

Directions Unit: Short Film - Time

I filmed this short video with Michael Hoad and Mark Cooper as one of a series of short films with myself Directing this particular one when we were asked to form small groups and shoot and edit three films in one day. This is a task we were given to help us gain experience for ourselves Directing our work. The fact that we didn't have much time to put into the projects I think worked to our advantage somewhat as the added pressure made us think more creatively about what ideas we could use.
